ron chick’s friends Dinner-dance show planned

Ron Chick’s Friends big band will have its 8th annual Valentine dinner-dance show, with special guest vocalists Doug and Pam DiPreta of Las Vegas, and Rachell Joy, on Feb. 12 at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.

The event is a benefit for the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Donations will be accepted with the money being used to purchase blankets.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with an Italian dinner catered by Vito (formerly ITAM Catering). The entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m.

There will also be a cash bar.

Tickets are $30 per person, and include dinner and the show; or $20 for just the show and dancing.

Tables of eight and 10 are available. Singles and couples are also welcome.

Ron Chick’s Friends is a 22-piece big band of professional musicians. It plays the music once heard at the old Idora Park Ballroom, including tunes by Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra and Natalie Cole.

Members of the band have played with Ferguson, Rich, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey and the U.S. Navy Band.

The band has recorded two CDs and two DVDs, all of which will be available for purchase at the dinner-dance.
