Pee Wee Phantoms battle to 1-1 tie


The Youngstown Phantoms Pee Wee hockey team secured 1-1 tie on the road last Sunday against the Pittsburgh Predators.

The Phantoms faced the No. 3 team in the league. The Predators are the most physical team in the league with 220 penalty minutes accumulated this season. The game was physical from the beginning with one Predator player receiving a game misconduct in the first period.

Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead with 7:14 remaining in the second period. As the game progressed, the Predators racked up 21 penalty minutes to the Phantoms 10 penalty minutes.

Those penalties ended up allowing Bo Gray (Boardman) to score on a power play with 1:23 left in the game. Getting the assist was Devin Whitaker (Boardman).

Great defensive games were played by by Colin Faloon (Austintown) and Vince Hepola (Canfield) kept the Predators from scoring. Colin Frost (Boardman) was in goal, facing 20 shots.
