Maintenance worker gets 5 years’ probation

Staff report

WARREN

Rex Thomas, 52, of Maryland Street Northwest, the maintenance worker convicted of stealing $160 in fundraising money from the Trumbull County Juvenile/Family Court on Main Avenue Southeast, has been sentenced to five years’ probation.

He also will spend 15 days in the Warren Alternative Sentencing Program that is run out of the former jail at the Warren Police Department. He will serve 30 days of electronically monitored house arrest, perform 40 hours of community service and pay $150 restitution.

Thomas pleaded guilty to theft in office, a felony, for the offense. Judge Andrew Logan told county commissioners last year that new video-surveillance equipment installed at the Family/Juvenile Court was instrumental in helping solve the crime.
