Mass. man gets 20 years in Ohio Brinks burglary

COLUMBUS (AP) — A Massachusetts man who prosecutors said was the ringleader behind a Brinks burglary in Ohio has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Columbus Dispatch reports 47-year-old Sean Murphy had argued for a shorter term because he said he gave federal authorities advice on protecting buildings against break-ins. But that didn’t impress the federal judge here who sentenced Murphy on Wednesday.

Authorities said a Columbus Brinks armored car warehouse was broken into in January 2009 by thieves who cut a hole in the roof and stole $2.3 million.

A jury found Murphy guilty in October of charges including racketeering and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. The Lynn, Mass., man and two co-defendants together must pay nearly $1.3 million in restitution.
