Colo. tax dodge author faces fed sentencing in Pa.

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A Colorado man is set for sentencing by a federal judge in northwestern Pennsylvania for conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service through a book he authored about how to dodge federal income taxes.

A U.S. District Court jury in Erie convicted Donald Turner, of Littleton, Colo. in September. He had been indicted about 10 years earlier by a federal grand jury in Pennsylvania for his book “Tax Free: How the Super Rich Do It.”

Turner was indicted along with a Meadville veterinarian, Daniel Leveto, who also promoted the book and sold his veterinary business to an offshore entity to hide income from the IRS. Leveto was sentenced in 2005 to nearly four years in prison.

Turner faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine today.
