MEN

John Carroll 74, Mount Union 65

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS

Freshman guard Nate Jacubec (Struthers) scored a game- and career-high 21 points for the Purple Raiders (8-10, 4-7 Ohio Athletic Conference), who twice rallied from a double-digit deficit before falling. Jimmy Wood scored 13 points. John Carroll, (13-4, 8-3) got 19 points from Corey Shontz.

Thiel 68, Washington & Jefferson 64

WASHINGTON, PA.

Blair Rozenblad (Kennedy Catholic) paced Thiel (12-4, 9-0 Presidents Athletic Conference) with a 20-rebound, 13-rebound effort. Despite recording his seventh double-double, it was just the third time Rozeblad eclipsed the 20-point plateau this season. Chace McKinney (Kennedy Catholic) totaled 14 points and four rebounds while Devon Adams added 11 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Anthony Harvey had 10 points and four rebounds. Thiel finished shooting 44.8 percent (26-58) from the floor and managed a 41-26 advantage on the glass. Zach Bellhy led the Presidents (6-11, 2-6) with 20 points and six rebounds.

Bethany 71, Geneva 54

BEAVER FALLS, PA.

After junior Reece Mabery scored 19 first-half points to give Bethany a nine-point halftime lead, the Bison shot 55 percent in the second half to pull away. The victory marked a milestone for Bethany (17-2, 9-1 PAC), which has won 17 games in nine consecutive seasons. The Golden Tornadoes are 4-14, 3-7C. Geneva’s Keynon Jackson had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Allegheny 65, Hiram 60

MEADVILLE, PA.

Senior guard Jamaal Watkins scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Terriers (11-7, 4-5 North Coast Athletic Conference). The Gators are 4-14, 2-7. Allegheny shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field and was led by the duo of Devone McLeod and James Ness who both scored 14 points. Ness also added seven rebounds. Hiram shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) for the game and was led by Watkins’ 22 points on nine-of-15 shooting (60 percent). Stefanov finished the game with 17 points to round out the high scorers.

WOMEN

Washington & Jefferson 66, Thiel 51

WASHINGTON, Pa.

Kelly Barzak (Howland) led Thiel (5-13, 5-6 PAC) with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, going 4-of-8 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. The double-double is Barzak’s third of the season. Ashley Davis was Thiel’s only other scorer in double figures, finishing with 14 points and four rebounds. Kayla Strimel paced W&J (10-8, 5-6) with 17 points and three rebounds.

Mount Union 82, John Carroll 54

ALLIANCE

The Purple Raisers (17-1, 10-1 OAC) extended their home win streak to 20 games. Junior Rosa LaMattina led a quintet of Purple Raiders in double-figures with a game-high 18 points. Senior Kori Wiedt scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Freshman Aly Daniel came off the bench to score 12 points while Erin Schmidt and Amanda Rose added 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

Allegheny 51, Hiram 46

MEADVILLE, PA.

Allegheny (13-5, 8-1 NCAC) never trailed in the second half as the Terriers dropped to 5-12, 2-7. Allegheny shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the field and went 0-for-12 from behind the three-point line. The Gators had one player score in double-figures in Daryl Ford with a game-high 18 points on seven-of-eight shooting (87.5 percent) and grabbed a game-tying high 10 rebounds. Teammate Heidi Goeller tied Ford in rebounds with 10. Hiram shot just 26.7 percent (16-of-60) from the field and 34.8 percent (eight-of-23) from behind the arc. Chelsea Kovach led the Terriers with 15 points on five-of-13 shooting (38.5 percent) and a team-tying high nine rebounds. Senior guard Tiffany Shields added 10 points and nine boards.

Bethany 66, Geneva 43

BEAVER FALLS, PA.

Senior Anne Wilson scored 14 of her game-high 16 points in the first half as Bethany raced out to a big halftime lead and never looked back. Sparking BC to the victory was 50 percent shooting from the floor (24-48) and a huge 41-20 rebounding advantage. Wilson was 3-for-5 from the arc in posting the game-high 16 points while junior Renee Shepherd recorded 12 points and team-bests of six rebounds and five steals. Kelly Zogran completed the double figure scorers with 10. Geneva’s top point production came from point guard Beth DeLuca with 12.

Gannon 79, Slippery Rock 62

ERIE, PA.

The Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team hung with No. 20 Gannon University until midway through the second half before the Golden Knights pulled away in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action. The Rock (5-12, 2-11 PSAC) trailed by just four points at halftime and held statistical advantages in every category but turnovers until nearly midway through the second half before Gannon (14-3, 11-2 PSAC) pulled away. Danielle Smith paced SRU at Gannon with 15 points and six rebounds. Jasmine Cooper added 12 points, while Erinne Cunningham chipped in 11 points.

Thomas More 66, Grove City 52

GROVE CITY, PA.

Junior guard Leah Gibson fired in 17 points for Grove City (4-14, 3-8 PAC).
