D&L disagreement
YOUNGSTOWN
D&L Energy Group, a member of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, expressed disagreement with comments made Monday by Tom Stewart, OOGA executive vice president.
Stewart told The Vindicator he was “frustrated” with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources regarding its handling of the earthquake-brine-injection-well situation in Youngstown.
“State government knew that those quakes were happening,” Stewart said.
D&L issued this statement: “The complexity of these issues require time and study to understand. Aware there is a commonly held assumption that the location of D&L’s Ohio Works brine-injection well may have a connection to seismic activity, ODNR directed D&L to develop a study that will employ sound science in the search for answers.”
A D&L injection well is suspected of triggering 12 Mahoning Valley earthquakes since last March.
Injection wells are a disposal method for brine, a salty, chemical byproduct of natural-gas and oil drilling.
App for job-seekers
COLUMBUS
A new mobile application from the state of Ohio allows job-seekers to search and apply for jobs using an iPhone, iPad or Android.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced the free OhioMeansJobs app on Monday, saying it allows users to search tens of thousands of job openings and internships using a job title, keyword or location.
The app combines state data with search and filter tools from Monster.
Ohio’s unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in December, a drop from November that officials say can in part be attributed to people who gave up looking for work or otherwise left the labor force.

CEO defends GM
zurich
The chairman and CEO of General Motors is defending the company over battery fires in Chevrolet Volt electric cars last year.
Daniel F. Akerson says in written testimony for a congressional hearing today that testing which resulted in fires put the battery through conditions no driver would experience in the “real world.” The Associated Press obtained the testimony Tuesday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began studying the Volt last June after a fire broke out in one of the cars after it was crashed as part of safety testing. Two other fires occurred later related to separate safety tests, and NHTSA opened an official investigation into the vehicle Nov. 25.
