Trumbull jail is at inmate capacity

WARREN

Officials at the Trumbull County jail have notified local judges that the jail has once again reached capacity and they should refrain from sending non-violent offenders there for now.

Sheriff Thomas Altiere said the jail hasn’t needed to send the notification for quite a few months, but the facility is at about 295 inmates, which is above its 280-inmate capacity.

The facility will take any offender on charges “from domestic violence and above,” Altiere said. That includes offenses that have a victim or any felony, Altiere said.

In some cases, judges might be able to sentence someone to report to the jail in a couple of weeks instead of immediately, the sheriff noted.
