Ex-Warren chief of police dies

Former Warren Police Chief John Mandopoulos died Sunday afternoon. A friend of the family told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, that Mandopoulos had been hospitalized after suffering a stroke last June. He was hospitalized again Dec. 21, with complications from the stroke.

Mandopoulos spent 36 years with the Warren Police Department, the last nine as chief. He resigned in 2009. Mandopoulos was 63. Funeral arrangements haven’t been announced yet.

Cherilynn M. Waldron, 37, of East Main Street, Cortland, was convicted last week for her eighth charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A jury in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court found her guilty of the charge after a trial before Judge Andrew Logan. She will be sentenced later. Waldron’s indictment says she previously was convicted of OVI in 1994 (two times), 1995, 1997, 1999, 2004 and 2009.

She was charged the eighth time by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on Feb. 24, 2011, in Bazetta Township.
