Applicants sought for garden program
Youngstown
The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation is accepting applications now through March 9 for the Mahoning River Corridor People’s Garden Grant Program.
The grants, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will go toward the establishing of community gardens along the Mahoning River Corridor.
There will be 12 grants given each for two years.
According to a press release, projects will be picked based on innovative design, community impact, project sustainability and the project’s potential educating the community in which it is built.
Groups are eligible if the future garden will be located in Lowelville, Struthers, Campbell, Youngstown, Girard, McDonald, Niles, Warren and Newton Falls.
A representative from a group applying must attend one of the scheduled workshops, held at various times and places throughout the rest of January and February.
The YNDC website, www.yndc.org, has the schedule for workshops.
