Students encouraged to apply for Polish Arts Club scholarship

Staff report

Youngstown

Aspiring artists, musicians, dancers and other students of Polish descent are eligible for scholarships from the Polish Arts Club of Youngstown.

Third- and fourth-year college students, as well as post-graduates, are encouraged to apply for the five $500 scholarships.

Polish descent is not mandatory if an active member of the Polish Arts Club sponsors the student.

All applicants will be required to submit a 500-word minimum essay on significant contributions of Polish nationals in American history or how has the perception of Polish people changed since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The deadline for scholarship applicants is Jan. 30.

The winners will be announced at the group’s Annual Scholarship Art, Music & Tea Reception at the Butler Institute of American Art, Butler North from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19.

Information is available by contacting the Lisa Lotze, Scholarship Chair, at 330-549-0124 or lisa@polishyoungstown.com. Applications are available to download at www. polishyoungstown.com/artsclub.

A panel of PAC members will select the winners after reviewing overall academic achievement, interest and involvement in their culture and faculty recommendations.

The scholarships are named in honor of Polish Arts Club members many of whom were professors at Youngstown State University and at other national institutions.

The annual scholarships are part of an array of activities the PAC sponsors and supports throughout the Mahoning Valley every year.
