Poland girls defeat Beaver Local

The Poland girls varsity basketball team defeated Beaver Local 53-24 on Jan. 5. The Bulldogs seized a 31-13 halftime lead to set the tone. Top scorer for Poland was Maura Bobby with 12 points. Other top scorers for Poland were Kelsey Malenic and Abbie Frank each with 10 points and Abby Brenoel with seven points.

Poland seeks varsity volleyball coach

Poland Seminary High School is looking to fill the position of head girls varsity volleyball coach. Interested applicants should submit a resume and letter of interest by Feb. 1 to Brian Banfield, athletic director, 3199 Dobbins Road, Poland.

Poland JV basketball defeats Fitch

The girls junior varsity basketball team defeated Austintown Fitch 40-30. Poland led at halftime 18-9. Top scorer for the Bulldogs was Maura Bobby with 13 points. Other top scorers for Poland were Kelsey Malenic with eight points and Rachael Robertson with six.

Poland wrestlers win matches at Top Gun

Poland wrestler AJ Shields won two matches at 132 pounds and teammate Mike Audi won a pair at 160, including one by pin, at last weekend’s Top Gun tournament in Alliance.

The event draws teams from multiple states and features some of the top talent in the state.

Poland was 43rd as a team with 18 team points. State power St. Paris Graham won the championship with 274.5 points, followed by Massillon Perry (202.5) and CVCA (180.5).

The Bulldogs are competing in the Josh Hephner Memorial Tournament this weekend at Fitch.
