Poland librarian Linda Kucilaba saw that cold winds and blustery snow were on its way to Poland Jan. 12, so she decided to add a warm and fuzzy theme to her Fun Time for 4’s and 5’s story time.

“It’s January and that means that whether it is raining or snowing, it will get very cold. I think the best way to fight the cold is to snuggle up in your favorite blanket tonight,” she told a group of toddlers at the event.

Kucilaba shared stories, songs and games that celebrated her favorite warm and fuzzy feeling. The librarian read the books “Hooray for Harry,” “Llama Llama Red Pajama,” “Owen,” and “Kiki’s Blanket.” Each story featured a different way to stay warm, including blankets, mittens and fuzzy socks.

The group had fun with a mitten rhyme and sang a song asking mom not to wash a favorite blanket. Kucilaba had the kids do a snow-themed hokey-pokey, where the kids put their right and left mittens, hat and boots in and out before shaking it all about.

The event ended with a craft where the toddlers made paper friends and slipped them into a paper sleeping bag.

“Think of us at the Poland library when you snuggle up for bed tonight,” Kucilaba said at the close of the event.
