Ohio father arrested after allegedly caging girl

CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities say an Ohio father has been jailed after he allegedly put his daughter into a dog cage as punishment, then threatened to electrify it.

Forty-one-year-old James Tapke was charged with child endangering. A court-appointed attorney said he pleaded not guilty today. Tapke was jailed on $25,000 bond.

A police report said he restrained the girl with duct tape, then shut her in a large dog cage Jan. 10 at a home near Cincinnati. Police say the girl’s brother let her out after about 20 minutes, but Tapke put her back in after she poured water on him.

Police say Tapke had his son bring him an electrical jumper pack. Tapke allegedly said several times he could electrify the cage, before releasing his daughter again.

The children’s ages weren’t released.
