The students at Lloyd Elementary gathered in the all-purpose room on Jan. 10, expecting a fun early-morning assembly. The Dazzling Mills Family exceeded expectations for simple fun and had the students sharing absolute amazement interrupted with loads laughter.

The Mills mixed humor, amazing juggling and balancing tricks, and positive messages during their visit to Lloyd. Steve Mills, host and family patriarch, said he learned to juggle because of a simple goal.

“Anything good in life starts with a goal. Once you find your goal, you have to stick with it and work as hard as you can. I know it’s hard to stay on track, but finally achieving your goal has to be one of the best feelings in the world,” he said.

Mills showed off solo juggling feats, but he also welcomed his daughter, Michelle Mills-Groth, and son-in-law, Kris Groth, to complete team juggling acts. The Groth’s 9-month-old daughter, Chloe, watched the action from a crib nearby, showing that the group was truly a family act.

The Mills involved Lloyd students in their show, asking Cassie Tonus to stand as juggling pins whizzed past either side of her, and teaching Emil Gardenhire a bit of juggling on the spot.

The group offered even more amazing feats involving unicycles, balancing tricks and an appearance from family dog Peppy.

Steve stayed focused during the presentation on his message on the importance of goals. Mills asked the students at Lloyd to set their own goal and see it through.

“Have you ever met a bully? Those are the kind of people who will stop you from achieving big things. I want you kids to set a goal to be a bully-free school, and I hope each one of you will encourage others to follow their dreams,” the entertainer said.
