First-grade students at Hilltop Elementary School didn’t spend much time getting ready for school on Dec. 20.

Trading in their jeans and sweatshirts for pajamas, slippers and robes, students showed up to the school’s “Hilltop Express,” its own version of “The Polar Express.” Students spent the afternoon creating holiday crafts and the four classes rotated to each classroom to create a new masterpiece in each room.

For this annual event, the first-grade teachers, along with help from PTO volunteers, instructed the children on how to make a Santa moon craft, a cut-out decorated Christmas tree ornament, a good luck bird nest ornament and a Rudolph reindeer craft.

Not to be left out of the fun of wearing pajamas to school, the first-grade teachers also got into the spirit of the day and wore their PJs, too.

To end the experience, the students enjoyed a snack of cookies and juice provided by volunteer PTO moms.
