Girls youth softball sign-ups today

Austintown Bounce, 4317 Kirk Road, will host sign-ups for the Austintown Girls Softball League today from 1 to 3 p.m. Austintown Township Hall will also host sign-ups from noon to 4 p.m.

Next Saturday, there will be a free skills clinic and an opportunity to register at AMS from 3 to 5 p.m.

Fitch track and field members place

The Austintown Fitch indoor track team participated in an unscored meet at Youngstown State last weekend.

Billy Price won the weight throw (60-2), Jay Jakovina was first in the in the high jump (6-8) and the 4x200 meter relay team of Daniel Rivera, Tarise Wolfe, Rob Venters and Tyreese Anderson was first in 1:33.25.

Fitch winners among girls were Gabby Figueroa, weight throw (47-10); Carissa Jenkins, 1600 (5:34.14) and the 4x400 relay team of Ebony Dejai Davis, Liz Mosier, Jayme Ritchie and Jenkins (4:23.51).

Fitch wrestlers place at Top Gun tournament

The Austintown Fitch wrestling team placed two wrestlers at the rugged Top Gun wrestling tournament at Alliance last weekend. The Falcons finished 22nd in the team standings with 62 points. The evnt was won by St. Paris Graham (274.5) with Massillon Perry taking second (202.5).

Korey Balog was runner-up at 182 and Lennie McGeachy was sixth at 285.

Balog went 4-1 on the weekend, winning two matches by pin and two by decision, including his semifinal over Charlie Dear of Massillon Jackson in overtime. Balog defaulted to Huston Evans of Graham in the finals.

McGeachy won his first two matches and finished 4-3 for the tournament. He won three matches by pin — all in 1:24 or less — and one by decision.

Fitch will host the annual Josh Hephner Memorial Tournament this weekend. The event honors a former Fitch wrestler.

Golf event set for this summer

The annual Pink Ribbon Gold Classic will be held at Tippecanoe Country Club on July 16. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. The Pink Ribbon committee will also sponsor a bus trip this spring to a local casino. Watch for further details on both of these events.

Fitch accepts nominations for Hall of Fame Class

The Austintown Fitch High School Athletic Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the fifth Hall of Fame class. All nominations are due by March 30.
