Talent-show auditions

YOUNGSTOWN

Auditions will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Main Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave., for a Youth Talent Show on March 16.

All types of acts are welcome, but there can be no profanity or references to drugs or sex. Auditioners can bring a CD of music, if necessary.

The show is open to young adults age 14 to 21. Bring proof of age.

Acts or individuals who are selected for the show will be required to pay a registration fee of $5 for solo artists or duos and $10 for larger groups. The top four winners of the show will receive cash prizes of $300, $200, $100 and $50.

The Youth Talent Show is being sponsored by Leaders for Progress, whose goal is to promote positive behavior mentoring to area youths, with the help of One Step to Life Inc.

Mathews BOE seeks applicants for vacancy

VIENNA

Mathews Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill the board position vacated by the resignation of first-term member Brian Stidham on Jan. 11.

By law, the board must name a replacement within 30 days of Stidham’s resignation.

Applicants must be registered voters and residents of the school district. Applications are available at the school board office, 4434B Warren-Sharon Road above Cortland Bank.

The deadline for submission is Feb. 1.

The applicant chosen for the position will serve through 2013.

Idora work day

YOUNGSTOWN

The Idora Neighborhood work day will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, snow or shine. Participants are to meet at the Youngstown Playhouse, at Playhouse Lane and Glenwood Avenue.

The activities planned are cutting wood and painting boards to secure vacant homes in the area.
