Memers of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America met in December at the Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station for their first Christmas party.
A ceremony to swear in officers of the newly formed chapter took place during the event. Accepting the reins as president was retired Col. Walter Duzzny, U.S. Army. Other officers taking an oath of office include Lt. John Holzer, U.S. Navy, first vice president; retired Lt. Col. Donald Rasile, U.S. Army, second vice president; and retired Chief Warrant Officer 3rd Class Don Oglesby, U.S. Coast Guard, secretary/treasurer.
The MSVC is the newest of more than 400 MOAA chapters throughout the United States, which has more than 370,000 commissioned and warrant officers from every branch of the military service. It will receive its official MSVC charter Feb. 23, when Vice Adm. Norbert R. Ryan, president and CEO of MOAA, will present it to Duzzny. The event will take place at 5 p.m. at the Consolidated Activity Center of the YAFRS, 3976 King Graves Road, Vienna. For more information or to make a reservation call Oglesby at 330-568-4456.
The next meeting of the MSVC will be at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Activity Center of the YAFRS. The scheduled guest speaker is Youngstown Municipal Judge Robert P. Milich, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel. His topic will be Veteran’s Court, a ground-breaking initiative sponsored by Milich that helps veterans charged with nonviolent misdemeanors who have a clinical diagnosis of substance dependence, mental health disease, traumatic brain injury or a co-occurring disorder. Reservations for the 5:30 p.m. dinner are required, but anyone may attend the 6:15 presentation by Milich. Contact Oglesby for more information.
