Fracking events

new wilmington, pa.

The Fracking Truth Alliance of Lawrence and Mercer Counties will host two events on fracking in western Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The first will be a showing of the movie “Gasland” from 10 a.m. to noon in the basement of Huntington Bank on Market Street.

The movie is a documentary that investigates the risks of agreeing to lease property for hydraulic fracturing, or fracking — a method gas companies use to extract natural gas from the Marcellus Shale.

The second event will be a landowner meeting at 2 p.m. at the livestock auction barn on Pa. Route 158 about one mile north of New Wilmington. It will not feature lawyers and gas-company representatives, the organization says. Rather, it will feature landowners who will discuss their experience of working with gas companies and the effects of the hydraulic horizontal drilling on their land. Call 724-964-1041 for more information.
