Body parts scattered near Hollywood sign in LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — More than 100 police officers, some on horseback, are searching a Hollywood wilderness park where a human head, two hands and two feet were discovered.

Homicide detectives, Police Academy recruits and other officers began scouring seven acres of Bronson Canyon park this morning.

The park a few miles from the Hollywood sign is believed to be the dumping ground for a man whose head was found in a plastic bag on Tuesday by a dog walker.

A police search of nearby brush uncovered the hands and feet on Wednesday. Police say the body parts may have been dumped several days ago and scattered by wild animals.

Authorities are checking dental records, fingerprints and missing persons reports in an effort to identify the man.
