W. Pa. man killed by forklift carrying scrap
ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a western Pennsylvania man has died after being run over by a forklift carrying scrap metal at a stainless steel recycling company.
Aliquippa police Chief Andre Davis says the incident that killed 53-year-old Timothy Pratchenko at Cronimet Corp. appears to be a “tragic accident.”
Authorities haven’t release the name of the man driving the forklift loaded with 500 pounds of metal that hit Pratchenko on Monday. The Beaver County coroner says an autopsy Tuesday shows he died at a hospital about a half hour after he was crushed by the forklift, and has also ruled the death an accident.
Company president Frank Santoro says he cannot comment because the incident remains under investigation.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, but won’t comment until its probe is finished.
