Troubled Ohio school district gets OK to restore busing

CINCINNATI (AP) — State officials monitoring a financially troubled school district in southwest Ohio are allowing it to restore school bus service for the first time in years.

Tuesday’s vote by a state commission means buses can roll again on Monday in the Little Miami district. It fell into a fiscal emergency that put it under state oversight after voters rejected higher taxes eight times. A tax issue finally won approval in November.

The school system cut busing in 2009.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the state panel also has allowed the district to hire a part-time curriculum director. Interim Superintendent Greg Power argued that the schools have been “running on fumes” and need a person to make sure coursework is preparing students for state testing.
