Teenage girl charged with underage drinking

A 17-year-old girl is charged after township police broke up an underage drinking party at her residence.

The girl, who lives on South Cadillac Road, was charged Sunday with two misdemeanors: obstruction of official business and allowing underage consumption of alcohol.

Police were called to the residence about 11:50 p.m. Sunday to check out reports of a party involving minors and alcohol.

The 17-year-old met police outside the home and denied that any drinking was going on inside, according to the police report. She said about 10 friends were upstairs, and no adults were present. She also denied officers entry to the home, the report said.

The teen called both parents, and her father arrived at the residence a short time later.

Her mother, who was unable to return home, told police she didn’t know her daughter had friends over and gave police permission to enter, according to the report.

The girl went back inside the house and while on the phone with her mother, police said they overheard her say, “You better call them back and tell them not to come inside because I’m going to get in trouble.”

When officers tried to enter the home, the teen remained on the phone with her mother and refused to unlock the door, the report said.

She eventually opened the door and was taken into custody, according to the report. She later was released to her father.

While searching the home, police found 11 other juveniles, along with various bottles of liquor and cans of beer. No other charges have been filed in the matter.
