POLICE CALLS

A summary of criminal activity in the city of Canfield and Austintown:

CANFIELD

Jan. 5

Telephone harassment: A Montgomery Lane man reported receiving harassing phone calls from a male who wanted him to go to the nearest Walmart to pick up a Western Union check for $55,000 and to meet someone at the store. Another call by the male said four men were coming to his house to give him the check. Police were asked to be at the man’s house.

Jan. 6

Criminal damaging/endangering: Police arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile for reportedly damaging a home in the 400 block of South Briarcliff Drive. He broke a window and put a hole in the siding.

Menacing: Police arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile for reportedly menacing another male student at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road. The suspect wanted to fight the other student and threatened him verbally and in a message on Facebook.

Jan. 7

Credit card fraud: A Sleepy Hollow man reported someone had charged one of his credit cards for a credit report to get information through Experian. He closed the credit-card account after the card company gave him the name of the person who opened the account.

Theft: A woman reported her purse was taken from her car at the Evergreen Motel, 485 W. Main St.

Jan. 8

Theft: Donald Lupole, 55, of 44 Lisbon St. was arrested on a charge of theft of a quilt and a bedspread at the Scott St. Laundromat, 15 Scott St.

Jan. 9

Warrant: Police arrested David Pryjma, 39, of 180 Village Blvd., on a warrant for four felony theft and theft-related charges out of Union Township.

Drug abuse: Police arrested Richard Aey, 45, of 4725 Rabbit Ridge, Canfield, on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia, after police found 5.7 grams of suspected marijuana and a brass-colored pipe on him at Hilltop Boulevard and North Broad Street.

Jan. 12

Drug paraphernalia: Police arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

Drug abuse/paraphernalia: Police charged Jeremy Petrilla, 21, of 1307 Warner Road, Vienna, with possession of drug paraphernalia, a silver and black pipe with marijuana residue and a red straw with powder residue and drug abuse of marijuana and possession of other drugs after his arrest at the BP Gas Station, 599 E. Main St.

AUSTINTOWN

Jan. 9

Weapons offense: Gun shots were fired by unidentified people at North Roanoke and Oakwood avenues.

Breaking and entering: The former Wedgewood Auto Parts, 1725 S. Raccoon Road in the Wedgewood Plaza, was broken into and electrical wires were cut out for copper.

Theft: Police issued a summons to Joseph Evanko, 54, of 4813 Westchester Drive, No. 27, for stealing $13.72 worth of groceries at Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.

Burglary: There is a suspect in a burglary at an apartment in the 20 block of Wickliffe Circle.

Warrant: Police issued a warrant to Charles Wolfcalf, 49, of 6076 Callaway Circle, Youngstown for contempt of court.

Theft: A former tenant stole numerous items at a home in the 50 block of North Edgehill Avenue.

Aggravated menacing: Threats were made to a person at a home in the 100 block of Atlanta Avenue.

Jan. 10

Theft: A wallet was taken by a female suspect at an apartment in the 4000 block of Westchester Avenue.

Theft: A credit card was stolen and subsequently used three times at Country Fair, 1143 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Menacing: A suspect is accused of menacing at an apartment in the 1000 block of Compass West.

Theft: A front license-plate was stolen from an auto parked in the 1000 block of Compass West Drive.

Theft: Police charged Paulette Sitnic, 53, of 1161 S. Raccoon Road, with the theft of $37.36 worth of merchandise at Kmart, 4475 Mahoning Ave.

Warrant: Police issued a warrant to Robert Scott Jr., 37, of 4711 Woodhurst Blvd., No.7, for domestic violence at Bill’s Place, 4771 Mahoning Ave.

Jan. 11

Breaking and entering: All-Do-It-Tech, 540 N. Meridian Road, was broken into and scrap metal taken.

Theft: Money was taken from a home in the 4000 block of Kirk Road.

Warrant: Police issued a warrant to Charles Murray, 46, of 518 W. Liberty St., No. 216, for failure to appear on an income-tax offense.

Fraud: Phone equipment was purchased through Verizon fraudulently at a home in the 5000 block of DePauw Avenue.

Identity theft: A victim’s information was used to purchase items from several companies. The victim lives in the 2000 block of Vollmer Drive.

Unauthorized use of motor vehicles: A suspect used a vehicle without permission from a home in the 4000 block of Kirk Road.

Disorderly conduct: Police charged Lori Cook, 47, of 508 Southward Drive, with disorderly conduct in the 600 block of South Raccoon Road.

Burglary: There was forced entry and numerous items were stolen from a home in the 200 block of Westminster Avenue.

Jan. 12

Assault: An intoxicated victim was assaulted by an unidentified man at Billy’s, 40 S. Meridian Road.

Menacing: A female was threatened by another female at a home in the 4000 block of Kirk Road.

Burglary: Possible entry was made through the dog door by a male in his 30s, and a second unidentified suspect in a green Chevrolet Lumina in a burglary at a home in the 3000 block of Edinburgh Drive.

Burglary: Entry was gained through the front door and numerous items were stolen at a home in the 100 block of South Four Mile Run Road.

Counterfeit currency: Nine counterfeit $10 bills were passed at Austintown Pawn, 3700 Mahoning Ave.

Warrant: Police arrested Tabitha Kerr, 42, of 2717 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, on a warrant for failure to appear on a theft charge.

Drug offense: Three suspects were apprehended at a home in the 100 block of Fairmeadow Drive, but one escaped. Arrested were Alfred Broxson, 29, of 28 Sheridan Ave., Niles, on a probation violation out of Iowa, Michael Woodring, 27, of 2625 Hewitt-Gifford Road, Niles, on a parole violation, and LeRoy Humble,22, of 31 Sheridan Ave., Niles, on an unspecified warrant, but he fled. Police found two back packs with three syringes each.

Jan. 13

Fraud: Unauthorized charges were made to an account at First Place Bank, 101 S. Canfield-Niles Road.

Theft: Jewelry, cash and an iPod were taken from a home in the 5000 block of North Beacon Drive.

Theft: A Maytag dryer was stolen from a carport at in the 1000 block of Maplecrest Drive.

Fraud: Unauthorized purchases were made at Get-Go, 5163 Mahoning Ave.

Recovered property: A wallet was recovered at Alfredo’s, 1651 S. Raccoon Road.

Theft: An unlocked vehicle was robbed at home in the 5000 block of Colgate Drive.

Burglary: Numerous items were stolen from a home in the 600 block of Duke Circle. Forced entry was made through a rear door.

Jan.14

Theft: Candy was stolen at the TA Travel Center, 5400 Seventy-Six Drive.

Counterfeit currency: Two counterfeit $10 bills were passed at ABC, 4903 Mahoning Ave.

Jan. 15

Theft: A purse was taken from a restroom at Regal Cinema, 6020 Mahoning Ave.

Warrant: Police issued a warrant to Damon Cyrus, 26, homeless, for failure to appear on a warrant for trafficking marijuana and burglary.

Drug offense: Police charged Duane Williams, 33, of 478 S. Raccoon Road, with drug possession of a small bag of 20 Vicodin and on a warrant out of Twinsburg.

Breaking and entering: $5,364 was taken at Davidson’s, 3636 Canfield Road.

Theft: An automobile window was smashed and the dash damaged and a CB radio was taken at Economy Inn, 1051 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Theft: A CB radio and an inverter were taken from an auto parked at Pilot, 1150 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Burglary: A Playstation and XBox were taken at an apartment in the 900 block of Compass West.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle mirror was damaged at a home in the 4000 block of New Hampshire Court.
