ODOT balks on timing on second I-90 replacement span near Cleveland

CLEVELAND (AP) — Half of a big Interstate 90 bridge replacement project in Cleveland could be in financial limbo.

Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jerry Wray tells The Plain Dealer that a draft project list due out today will show that money for building a second I-90 replacement bridge won’t be available until 2023.

Work on the first bridge is under way and should be completed in 2013. The two new spans are meant to replace a single, aging bridge over the Cuyahoga River just south of downtown Cleveland.

Wray said Monday the state doesn’t have the money to meet growing, unrealistic demands for dozens of big-ticket road and bridge projects across the state.

He says local officials in Ohio will likely be shocked by the revised project schedule.
