YOUNGSTOWN
A nonprofit organization, Help A Teacher Teach, is organizing a spring fundraiser featuring New York Times bestselling author and Plain Dealer columnist Regina Brett. The event will take place at the Davis Center, 123 McKinley Ave., at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.
The affair will begin at 1 p.m. March 4 with Brett’s inspirational talk, followed by refreshments and free raffle drawings. Those who attend will receive an autographed copy of her new book, “Be the Miracle: 50 Lessons for Making the Impossible Possible.”
In the book, Brett sets forth challenges for those hoping to effect change in their lives. The lessons in her book stem from her own life experience and that of others, especially those she met in her 24 years as a journalist. “Be The Miracle” is a follow-up to her previous bestseller, “God Never Blinks,” written in the shadow of her cancer diagnosis.
Additional copies of both her books will be available for purchase and signing. Proceeds will benefit HATT’s mission to provide supplies to K-12 Mahoning County classrooms that schools, students, families and teachers cannot afford.
Tickets may be purchased with a major credit card by calling 330-507-0611. They cost $30 per person; $35 at the door. To pay by check, mail to Help A Teacher Teach P.O. Box 2906 Youngstown, OH 44511. The deadline for advance purchase is Feb. 22.
Brett was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2009 and 2008 for columns she wrote for The Plain Dealer. Her column focuses on the issues of everyday life. Her books reflect the lessons she has learned over the years — not only about herself, but also about others.
