Christine Purnell and Kevin Gowdy, both of Denver, were united in marriage Dec. 31, 2011, at Smith Corners United Methodist Church in Austintown.
The Rev. Dr. Jan Sprague performed the ceremony for the daughter of Joan and Walter Purnell of North Jackson, and the son of Sharon Gowdy of Denver. A reception followed at the Fifth Season Banquet Center in Mineral Ridge.
The bride wore an ivory gown featuring a V-neckline, a lace bodice and train, and a beaded belt.
Laura Bowers attended the bride as maid of honor. She wore a deep purple dress, as did bridesmaids Amanda Purnell, the bride’s sister, and Beth Clark, the bride’s cousin.
Matt Hoelzel served as best man and Dan Koval was groomsman.
Mrs. Gowdy is a supervising case manager at Rose Medical Center in Denver after earning a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and a master’s degree in social administration from Case Western Reserve University.
Mr. Gowdy is a paraprofessional for Denver Public Schools while pursuing a special education license at Metropolitan State College of Denver, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science.
After a honeymoon in Hawaii, the couple are living in Denver.
