Lake Milton Scouts honored for project
COLUMBUS
A Girl Scout troop that provides pillows and pillowcases to a Northeast Ohio homeless shelter is among five recipients of state awards given in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Scouts in Troop 397 in Lake Milton say their annual donation to a Youngstown shelter was inspired by King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The girls reasoned that in order to have a dream, a person needs a pillow.
They were recognized Wednesday at the state’s annual King commemorative celebration in Columbus, coming ahead of Monday’s King holiday.
A news release says other honorees include a man who has raised awareness of issues concerning Ohio’s Asian-American community and the head of the nonpartisan Cleveland Voter Coalition, which works to get more people voting.
