Poland Seminary High School’s “Seminary Singers” spent Dec. 20 spreading cheer throughout their school district. Their earliest commitment was a visit to North Elementary the morning of Dec. 20.
Choir adviser Charles Szabo, who previously taught music at North Elementary, waved to many of his former students and stressed that the high school students should serve as inspiration.
“Many of these students started out just like you, just singing in elementary school shows and plays. When they got to high school, they really pursued it and worked at it. I hope some day you might think about doing the same,” Szabo said to the students.
The event began with traditional holiday tunes performed by the students dressed in their choir robes. After the robes were discarded, the selections became modern, fun, and even a bit silly. During a rendition of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” boy and girl duos serenaded each other and danced.
Senior singer George Dibo, dressed in his best Elvis gear, performed a rendition of “Blue Christmas,” and the choir followed with grass skirts and hula dancing to “Bright Hawaiian Christmas Day.”
Following their performance, each student in the choir shared their name and what elementary school they attended.
Principal Tracy Kashak thanked the high school students for their visit and welcomed the excitement the performance brought.
“If we weren’t in the holiday spirit before, we definitely are now,” she said.
