Relay for Life sets kickoff event

AUSTINTOWN

The American Cancer Society has set an open house as a kickoff for Relay for Life of Austintown. The community celebration, set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road, is open to anyone who wants to learn more. Relay for Life is a community fundraising event that honors cancer survivors, cancer patients, caregivers and who have lost their battle with cancer.

Relay for Life Austintown is scheduled for June 1 and 2 at Fitch High School. Individuals and teams camp out overnight, barbecue, dance and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds. At nightfall, participants light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving tribute to cancer survivors and those who lost their lives.
