Guest at dog pound in Ohio was a real pig
PAULDING, Ohio
A dog pound in northwest Ohio has said goodbye to a guest more appropriate for a barnyard.
The Paulding County dog warden took in a pot-bellied pig for a few days this week after a woman who’d been sitting for the animal got stuck with him when the owners wouldn’t take him back.
Dog Warden Georgia Dyson normally doesn’t accept anything other than dogs. But she tells The (Toledo) Blade she felt bad for the pig-sitter, whom she described as a senior citizen unable to care for the animal.
Dyson says she fed pig feed to the 14-week-old pig, named Bacon Bits and about the size of a beagle. He got french fries as a treat.
A rescue farm came to fetch Bacon Bits on Wednesday.
Carjacking suspect arrested when he stops for gas
COOS BAY, Ore.
A carjacking suspect in Oregon certainly didn’t check the fuel gauge on the car he’s accused of taking from a grocery-store parking lot.
Officers in Coos Bay quickly arrested the man when he stopped a few miles away to buy gas.
Authorities say the man threw a woman out of the car Tuesday and sped off. The World of Coos Bay reports the man pulled into a gas station and asked to pay cash, but the attendant was suspicious because the driver was agitated.
The attendant says the man obviously was relieved when police drove past the station.
But officers drove around the back and cornered the suspect.
Police say he tried to drive away but crashed the stolen Honda Civic into a light post.
Mass. woman disputes TSA portrayal of her cupcake
PEABODY, Mass.
A Massachusetts woman says federal safety officials are mischaracterizing a frosted cupcake in a jar that was confiscated from her at a Las Vegas airport.
The Transportation Security Administration says it considered the icing on the cupcake a gel exceeding the 3-ounce limit for airline carry-on luggage. The limit is designed to stop terrorists seeking to evade detection by using explosives made of plastics, liquids or gels.
The TSA says in a blog post the cupcake taken last month had a thick layer of icing inside the jar.
But Peabody resident Rebecca Hains said Wednesday her jar consisted of three layers of cupcake, each topped with a medium layer of icing, not a thick layer.
The bakery that makes the red velvet cupcake has renamed it National (Security) Velvet.
