Career center Key Club donates to Rescue Mission

Students in the Key Club at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center shared in the holiday spirit during a community service trip to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.

This is the eighth year the Key Club at MCCTC has worked with the Rescue Mission.

The service project began with a school-wide canned food drive during the weeks leading up to the group’s visit to the Rescue Mission.

The drive collected more than 2,500 food items donated by MCCTC students and staff. The students then delivered the items to the Rescue Mission and worked with the staff at the warehouse facility to help prepare for their Winter Wonderland.

Students organized items and made gift bags for the event, which provides gifts to local families for the holidays.

After volunteering at the warehouse, the group then visited the Mission, served lunch to the public and toured the facility.

“Community service is at the core of Key Club’s mission. This service project not only helps us to remember our mission, but to give back to the community and to those who need it most this time of year,” said Alissa Duchek, Key Club adviser and English instructor at MCCTC.
