Association makes donation to food bank

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees learned this week that the McKinley Heights Mutual Benevolent Association, which is the social organization for the McKinley Heights fire station, raised 928 pounds of food donations between Thanksgiving and Christmas to distribute to area food banks.

Fire Chief Randy Pugh told trustees that, in addition to the food, the firefighters also had a boot collection and raised an additional $2,800 and added in $900 of their own funds to donate an additional $3,700 to local food banks.

Trustees named Steve Gerberry chairman and Marvin McBride vice chairman at their organizational meeting.

Donation accepted

McDONALD

McDonald Board of Education accepted a donation of $4,140 this week from a local support group toward the purchase of technology for Roosevelt Elementary School.

ROSES stands for Roosevelt’s Organization Supporting Educators and Students. Its donation paid for 12 projectors for the elementary school classrooms.

The district will pay an estimated $200 per projector to have them mounted on the ceiling, schools Treasurer Brian Stidham said, making the total project cost around $7,000. The projectors were purchased in the fall, and some still need to be installed.

New board members Tom Hart, John Saganich and Eric Shehadi were administered the oath of office, and Jack Dugan was elected president. Vice president will be Catherine Harvey.

The board will continue to meet on the second Monday of the month at 7:15 p.m. in the high school library.
