Man shot in Grand River Wilderness

Details are expected to be released today on the death of a man who was shot Tuesday afternoon in the Grand River Wilderness Area here.

The incident is being handled by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The state patrol was called to Hoffman Norton Road, just south of state Route 88 at 3:23 p.m. Fire departments from Farmington, Bristol and Southington townships also responded.

Bristol Fire Chief Roger French confirmed that a man was shot and died while in the wilderness are which is state game land. No further information was available late Tuesday night.

Council election

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Richard DeBucci was re-elected president of New Middletown Village Council. DeBucci will preside over a council with two new members — former Mayor Robert Carson and Michelle Butler Myers. Other members are Virginia Younger, Jack Novicky, and Dan Santangelo.

Three new members were appointed to the New Middletown Fire Department, pending results of physicals and background checks. They are Christopher Lipscomb, Brandon Minto and Joshua Tyree.

Council agreed to spend up to $625 for a 23-foot telescopic flagpole and flag from the Western Reserve Flag Co., Boardman, to replace the old one outside the village administration building. It also agreed to renew its membership in the Mahoning County Crisis Response Team for $2,000 for 2012.

Kathy Foster was named village secretary and clerk of courts.

Teens face charges

Austintown

Township police arrested two juvenile males in a Sunday evening robbery at Taco Bell on Mahoning Avenue.

Derek Strohm and Jonathan Minerd, both 17 and of Austintown, were charged Tuesday night with aggravated robbery.

Detective Sgt. Kathy Dina, of Austintown police, said the pair were arraigned in Mahoning County juvenile court, but no additional information on the case was available.

Strohm and Minerd are accused of robbing a 17-year-old classmate at gunpoint Sunday evening in the Taco Bell parking lot, Dina said.

New cell sites

CORTLAND

AT&T announced the activation of 10 new mobile broadband cell sites in Trumbull County, including the communities of Brookfield, Cortland, Hartford and Kinsman, that will enhance coverage for area residents.
