Erie’s GE plant books 43 S. African locomotives
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — The GE Transportation plans near Erie has orders for 43 more locomotives from a South African railroad.
GE isn’t disclosing the price of the locomotives ordered by Transnet Rail Engineering. The same firm has previously ordered 100 other locomotives since 2009.
The locomotives will be built in South Africa from kits produced at GE plants in Lawrence Park, near Erie, and Grove City, which is also in western Pennsylvania.
The Erie Times-News (http://bit.ly/f76MQq ) reports the kits will begin shipping in the second quarter of this year.
