300 crowd A&W auction in Boardman

Close to 300 crowded into the Boardman A&W restaurant today, all hoping to leave with a piece of history.

The restaurant on the corner of U.S. Route 224 and West Boulevard closed Dec. 31 and a liquidation auction was held this morning.

Basinger Auctions handled today’s auction, which drew interest from all over the country, said owner Paul Basinger.

Memorabilia was what brought many to the auction. An A&W gum ball machine in the shape of a gas pump sold for $2,300 and the neon-lined A&W clock sold for $800.
