Park meetings

The Mill Creek Metropolitan Park District will have two public meetings to begin developing a 10-year strategic master plan: 6 p.m. today at the MetroParks Farm in Canfield and 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown.

Forum on nutrition

Dr. Jim Mussler of Wellness-One of Boardman is offering an information session on “Nutrition and Whole Food Supplements” at 6 p.m. Thursday at 843 Boardman-Canfield Road.

The free session is designed for people who fall short of the recommended six to eight servings of vegetables a day, who want to start a good nutritional and supplementation program and who want a healthful and more-active lifestyle.

Seating is limited, so participants are asked to register by calling 330-758-9567.

Free samples and door prizes will be provided.

Gardening training

The 2012 Market Gardener Training Program offered by Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. will educate interested Youngstown residents in the agricultural and business aspects of sustainable market gardening.

The course will run Saturdays for 10 weeks, from early March until early May. Each class will present practical agriculture techniques and small- business development topics. Field trips to visit farmers and farmers markets will be provided, along with hands-on workshops, books and supplies.

Participants who complete the program will receive assistance in finding further agricultural opportunities.

The course is free, but space will be limited to 25 participants.
