About the event
The Physicians, Scientists and Engineers for Healthy Energy and the Mid-Atlantic Center for Children’s Health and the Environment hosted a conference Monday in Arlington, Va. to discuss the public health ramifications of fracking.
Fracking is the process in which chemical and sand-laced water is blasted into shale rock thousands of feet below the ground to unlock natural gas and oil.
Medical professionals, environmental advocates and legal experts discussed the linking of fracking to water and soil contamination and air pollution, how to prevent possible sources of contamination and the needed steps to ensure public health and safety.
