Canfield boys, Boardman girls win NEAC crowns

The Canfield boys team and Boardman girls won the Northeast Aquatic Conference championships on Saturday.

Canfield scored 402.5 points to edge runner-up Wooster (372.5). Warren Harding finished in third place with 288 points, while Boardman was fifth with 235.

In the girls standings, Boardman scored 393 points to runner-up Wooster’s 380. Canfield was third with 286, while Harding was sixth with 212.

Canfield’s boys individual winners were junior Nicholas Montalto in the 100-yard freestyle (49.99 seconds) and freshman Connor Brady in the 100 backstroke (56.11).

Canfield also won the 400 free relay, with sophomores Daniel Bogan and Michael DiDomenico, senior Mark Dalvin and Montalto finishing in 3:26.82.

Boardman’s Ryan Bailey, a junior, set two meet records, winning the 100 butterfly in 50.77 and the 100 breaststroke in 59.02.

He was also a member of Boardman’s winning 200 medley relay, joining seniors Alex Downie and Alec Santamas, and junior Nick Barone in a winning time of 1:42.72.

Harding had three individual winners: freshman Dylan Thirion in the 200 free (1:49.83), senior Kieran Hernon in the 200 individual medley (2:03.94) and senior Vaughn Deuble in the 50 free (22.88).

Harding also won the 200 free relay, with Zackary Williams, Hernon, Thirion and Deuble finishing in 1:29.78.

In the girls competition, Boardman’s Colleen Manning and Jessica Hilk both won two individual events.

Manning, a junior, won the 200 free in 2:02.55 and the 500 free in 5:30.98.

Hilk, a sophomore, won the 200 IM in 2:17.71 and the 100 free in 55.67.

Both were also members of Boardman’s 400 free relay, joining sophomore Jordan Markovitch and freshman Brooke Bailey to a winning time of 3:47.75.

Boardman also won the 200 medley relay, with freshman Sarah Gonda, senior Emily Bodamer, Bailey and junior Gaby DeAscentis finishing in 1:53.59.

For Canfield, freshman Sarah Heaven won the 100 back in 1:03.00.

Harding’s Emily Thirion won two individual events: the 100 fly in 59.94 and the 100 breast in 1:08.32.
