Atty. Leo Puhall will lead the board of directors of Catholic Charities Regional Agency for a second year as president.
Serving with him will be Joseph Gorman, first vice president; Virginia M. Grilli, second vice president; John Waldorf, secretary; and Deacon Kevin Lamar, treasurer.
New directors for 2012 are Porfirio Esparra Jr., senior director of human resources at Humility of Mary Health Partners, and the Rev. James Lang, pastor of St. George Church in Lisbon.
The board recognized out-going members John Moliterno and Kim Ross.
The agency serves Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties and is an affiliate member of the Diocese of Youngstown Catholic Charities Corp.
Forum on nutrition

Dr. Jim Mussler of Wellness-One of Boardman is offering an information session on “Nutrition and Whole Food Supplements” at 6 p.m. Thursday at 843 Boardman-Canfield Road.
The free session is designed for people who fall short of the recommended six to eight servings of vegetables a day, who want to start a good nutritional and supplementation program and who want a healthful and more-active lifestyle.
Seating is limited, so participants are asked to register by calling 330-758-9567. Free samples and door prizes will be provided.

Frank Santisi and Joseph J. Pecchia, both of Boardman, have been appointed this week to four-year terms on the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities by Probate Judge Mark Belinky. They replace Dominic Medina of Campbell and Dawn Burton of Youngstown, whose terms expired at the end of 2011. Medina did not seek reappointment to the seven-member board, and Burton served three consecutive four-year terms, the maximum allowed by law.

Gardening classes

Ohio State University Extension, Trumbull County, will conduct Master Gardener Volunteer classes at the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St.
Individuals interested in taking the classes, which focus on a variety of horticultural topics, should call OSU Extension at 330-638-6783 to request an application.
Tuition is $175. There is a required background check and interview because volunteers work with at-risk populations. There also is a fee for background checks.
Classes will begin in February and end in May. Students/candidates then begin service hours in various areas and become certified upon successful completion of that service.
Master Gardener Volunteer Program in Trumbull County began in 1998. About 150 people have completed the curriculum. There are 93 certified Master Gardeners in Trumbull County.
McDonald council seeks applicants

Village council is accepting letters of interest through Jan. 25 to fill a seat on council.
Councilman Peter D. Sudol announced this month that he is resigning, effective Jan. 31, because of illness.
Sudol, 44, who has served on council since 2006 and is in his second term, continues to fight a nearly two-year battle with cancer. He has served on council’s parks and buildings, finance and safety committees.
Before serving as a councilman, Sudol spent two years as the village’s building inspector.
“This is a sad and difficult day for me as I have so thoroughly enjoyed serving our beautiful village and its residents,” Sudol wrote in his resignation letter.
Those interested in applying should send correspondence to Councilman Michael J. O’Brien, council’s president pro tempore, at the Village Municipal Building, 451 Ohio Ave., McDonald, OH 44437.
McGee Brown seeks re-election
COLUMBUS
The first black woman to sit on the Ohio Supreme Court will campaign to retain her position.
The Ohio Democratic Party says Justice Yvette McGee Brown plans to formally announce her bid this afternoon at a YWCA facility in Columbus. She’s one of three justices in races this year.
Outgoing Democratic governor Ted Strickland chose McGee Brown in 2010 to fill a vacancy created by the election of Justice Maureen O’Connor as chief justice.

Dulci-More: Folk and Traditional Musicians will present Leela and Ellie Grace for the Dulci-More Concert Series. 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Meeting Room of the Salem Historical Society, 208 S. Broadway.
Admission is a $10 donation at the door, and reservations are not required. A total of $5 more covers all the children in a family for the concert. Refreshments will be served at the intermission. The entrance to the meeting room is through the back door on East Alley.
