Son accused in arson

WARREN

Eddie Brooks, 37, of Hamilton Street Southwest, pleaded innocent Friday morning in Warren Municipal Court to a felony arson charge accusing him of setting his mother’s house ablaze at 11:20 p.m. Thursday. He was released on $5,000 bond.

A woman called police around 11 p.m., saying she was Brooks’ girlfriend and Brooks was headed to his mother’s vacant house at 1155 Oak Street to burn it down.

When officers arrived, the house was on fire. An officer located Brooks on Pearl Street Southwest, one street away, smelling like smoke.

Police also located Tina Young, the woman who called 911. Young told police Brooks went to his mother’s house with a plastic bottle containing vodka and rum. She said she called 911 because she “wanted no part in what Eddie was doing.”

Warren firefighters said the fire caused $15,000 damage to the Cape-Cod-style home.
