Volunteer Network announces service project

YOUNGSTOWN

Thousands of Americans will remember Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 16 by serving in their communities.

Locally, in reflection of Dr. King’s belief that “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve,” HandsOn Volunteer Network of the Valley (HOVN) has organized the “WriteOn! School Supply Drive.”

Research indicates that students receiving supplies at the beginning of the school year now need them to be replenished.

Items can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 16 at two locations: HOVN, 5500 Market St., Suite 110, Boardman, or Girard MultiGenerational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave. HOVN also will accept donations before the holiday from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.

Students who need service hours for leadership in their school, community, church or service group are encouraged to be the point person for collecting and delivering supplies to drop-off locations.

For more information contact Kristen Gallagher, National Days of Service Coordinator at HOVN, at 330-782-5877.
