Students at Stadium Drive Elementary welcomed the Christmas holiday by putting joy in the forefront of their celebrations.
The school’s holiday parties began with a sing-along to bring staff and students together. Singers Tim Welsh, Kristi Yazvac and Katelyn DeLadurantey led the school in some of the students’ favorite Christmas carols.
First-grade teacher Melissa Struharik said the sing-along was special because of the guest singers.
“They’re all students who graduated from Boardman High School and showed a great passion for music, so it’s wonderful to see them back here and sharing that with our younger generation,” she said.
As the group sang “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” St. Nick showed up and joined the students for a few songs. Afterward, each class headed back to their rooms to celebrate their own Christmas.
Santa stopped by each room, gifting each student a bell from the tale “The Polar Express.” According to the story, those who can hear the bell ring are those who truly believe in Christmas. He also offered a stack of personalized letters, where Santa answered their queries and asked them to be good at home and school all year.
In a visit to Heidi Peachock’s first-grade classroom, Santa made a special request for snack time at each student’s house. “Skip the milk and cookies – I’d appreciate a bowl of pasta and some broccoli. When I see that treat waiting for me, I’ll be thankful that you’re one of the students I met here at Stadium Drive,” Santa said.
