POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty, Girard and Hubbard:

LIBERTY

Dec. 29

Theft: Police issued summonses to 36-year-old Yaseen Traylor and Orlanda Dodson, both of 545 Detroit Ave., Youngstown, after $107 worth of merchandise was stolen from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza.

Theft: A citizens band radio, a global-positioning-system unit, an antenna and three prescription bottles were removed from a car in the 1600 block of East Liberty Street, for a $540 loss.

Identity fraud: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road man discovered a $100 unauthorized withdrawal to his checking account.

Bad checks: Cheryl J. Harris, 49, of 2540 Elm St., Youngstown, faced a felony charge of passing bad checks after having been accused of passing or trying to pass nine checks at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., from an account with insufficient funds.

Counterfeit: A woman passed a fake $50 bill at USA Gas Mart, 2904 Belmont Ave., though no charges were filed.

Dec. 30

Vandalism: A bottle containing a frozen liquid was used to do $1,000 in damage to a window at a residence in the 30 block of Goldie Road.

Criminal damaging: A West Montrose Street man alleged a neighbor threw a rock, causing $300 in damage to a 25-square-foot window at his home.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Joann Lane resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Marlon A. Brown, 4901 Logan Way, Hubbard, on a felony charge of failure to comply with police as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Brown, who authorities said led them on a vehicular pursuit, had a bag of suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe, a report showed.

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 43-year-old Van D. Darling Jr., 919 Bonnie Brae Drive, Youngstown, on an outstanding township warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court.

Theft: A manager for Antone’s Italian Grille in the Liberty Plaza realized that about $990 had not been deposited.

Endangerment: Police received information that a township man had reportedly beaten a 12-year-old Niles boy several times with a belt.

Dec. 31

Theft: A Liberty Avenue woman noticed $230 missing from her purse.

Criminal damaging: Someone on Lamplighter Drive ran over a mailbox and damaged part of a lawn.

Jan. 1

Possible trespassing: An employee of Monteen’s Restaurant, 3807 Belmont Ave., speculated that a homeless man may have entered the eatery for a place to sleep after a police officer noticed a ladder missing.

Criminal damaging: A Hadley Avenue woman reported her former boyfriend banged on her door and broke a bedroom window.

Jan. 3

Theft: Two 19-year-old Youngstown women were detained after a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. One of the women, Ladaisa Hester of 2561 Tyrell St., Youngstown, was wanted by Youngstown police on a criminal-damaging warrant.

Theft: A Colonial Drive woman accused her boyfriend of taking three flat-screen TVs from her home.

Aggravated menacing: A Roosevelt Drive woman told police she received threatening calls and text messages, including a warning that her residence would be blown up.

GIRARD

Dec. 28

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 700 block of North St. Clair Avenue was found with damage to three tires and two mirrors.

Dec. 29

Harassment: An East Kline Street woman said her former boyfriend has made and sent unwanted calls and text messages.

Harassment: An East Kline Street woman reported having received unwanted calls, including one claiming she had been awarded a $2.5 million settlement.

Dec. 30

Burglary: To a home in the 300 block of Indiana Avenue, apparently through a bedroom window. Stolen were three laptop computers and a $300 Sony PlayStation 3 system, for an estimated $2,300 loss.

Dec. 31

Theft: An Abby Street woman reported 11 antique candy-cane lawn decorations stolen.

Possible assault: An East Prospect Street woman told officers her 15-year-old son had been assaulted, though police said the boy was unable to remember details of the reported crime.

Criminal damaging/menacing: A Mosier Road man reported another man destroyed some of the accuser’s porch furniture and threatened to harm him.

Jan. 1

Burglary: Roughly $13,000 and two electronic devices were missing from a residence in the 100 block of West Second Street someone had entered.

Theft: An Abby Street woman reported her son’s $450 iPhone stolen.

Jan. 2

Breaking and entering: Two people entered then left a residence in the 900 block of North Highland Avenue.

Jan. 4

Arrest: Police responded to a person passed out at a North Avenue apartment complex, where they charged 42-year-old Ross A. Frances of Brookside Drive, Hubbard, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

HUBBARD

Dec. 26

Recovered property: A temporary driver’s permit was found and returned to a Westview Avenue girl.

Dec. 27

Theft: A Glenwood Drive woman reported the theft of property.

Harassment: A Dresden Drive man accused his brother of making such calls to him.

Arrest: Police picked up Jessica Engle, no information provided, in Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court. Engle also was wanted by Mercer County, Pa., authorities on a charge of theft by deception.

Dec. 28

Recovered property: An out-of-state sheriff’s department investigator recovered a firearm that belongs to a Hubbard man.
