Ohio takes away Cincy's grant for curbing STDs

CINCINNATI (AP) — Ohio health officials have taken away nearly $737,000 in grant money from Cincinnati for curbing sexually transmitted diseases because they say the city has done poorly on prevention and administration.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the state’s decision to pull funding the city has received for 30 years was based on Cincinnati’s failure to get “passing” scores on the review of its grant applications. The money also funds a program for HIV prevention.

A state health department official says the city did such a poor job that there was no way to justify giving the grants again. The city department was faulted for things including having no improvement plan to reduce STDs.

Cincinnati’s health commissioner disputes nearly everything in the review and says the scoring was faulty.
