Master Gardener classes scheduled

Ohio State University Extension, Trumbull County, will conduct Master Gardener Volunteer classes at Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St.

Individuals interested in taking the classes, which focus on a variety of horticultural topics, should call OSU Extension at 330-638-6783 to request an application.

Tuition is $175. There is a required background check and interview required because volunteers work with at-risk populations. There is a fee for background checks.

Classes will begin in February and conclude in May. Students/candidates then begin service hours in various areas and become certified upon successful completion of that service.

Master Gardener Volunteer Program in Trumbull County began in 1998. About 150 people have completed the curriculum. There are 93 certified Master Gardeners in Trumbull County.
