Falling tree crushes, kills road worker

NEWARK, Ohio

A 12-foot section of a tree trunk being removed from a right-of-way fell and crushed an Ohio road-crew worker to death.

Several media outlets reported that the accident Thursday happened while 45-year-old Troy Murphy, a Licking County employee, was working with other crew members to bring the tree down.

Firefighter Brandon Reece of the Granville Township Fire Department says the accident happened about 2:15 p.m.

Township Fire Chief Jeff Hussey said co-workers used heavy equipment to remove the tree and performed CPR.
