Fans of Santa flocked to Cornersburg Dairy Queen on Dec. 16 to celebrate Christmas with the man in red.

The third annual “Christmas in Cornersburg” celebration was hosted by Dairy Queen owners Ray and Chrissy Smith.

The team offered holiday fun with live nativity animals and the chance to roast marshmallows and hot dogs over an open fire. A selection of ice sculptures displaying friendly holiday messages were at the store.

Kids and families at the event enjoyed themselves with activities, but the excitement reached a crescendo when wails from a Youngstown Fire Department truck were heard down Raccoon Road. A smiling, waving Santa arrived on the fire truck and settled it to his chair to talk with area children about some of their Christmas wishes.

The Youngstown Fire Department stayed at the event and opened the doors of their truck for kids to jump in and explore.

With a distinct chill in the air, families headed inside the Dairy Queen store to warm up and eat their favorite treats.

A brass quintet of Canfield High School band students entertained the crowds inside the facility with Christmas carols. The store offered a selection of discounted treats and also sold gently-used Christmas ornaments to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital.

“We love to welcome the community to our store during Christmas and have them share their holiday with us,” Smith said during the event.
