It is widely known that when Santa Claus visits a household, he expects a cup of milk and a selection of cookies that he can enjoy after dropping off his gifts.

Boardman Park offered local kids the chance to make special homemade cookies for St. Nick during their “Cookies for Santa” event on Dec. 19.

Lariccia Community Center was prepared for messy cookie makers with rolling pins, cookie cutters, and a pre-made ball of sugar cookie dough to get the kids started.

Vincent Landimarino came to the event already dressed in an apron and chef hat.

“He absolutely loves to bake and he especially loves to bake for Santa,” Vincent’s mom, Michelle Landimarino, said during the event.

After the finished cookies headed to the oven, Boardman Park offered an array of holiday fun to entertain the crowds. Kids could participate in creating a paper gingerbread house craft, a colorful ornament and to decorate a cup for Santa’s milk and a to-go box for Santa’s treats. In the meantime, waffles and sausage were available for guests to eat.

Guests were allowed to decorate two mini-cupcakes, and could choose to enjoy the treats themselves or add to Santa’s sweet collection.

Aretha McArthur watched as her daughter, Briah, covered her cupcakes in purple icing.

“Santa will definitely be getting a great selection of treats from our house,” McArthur said.

Peer leadership group PANDA, a program of Meridian Community Care, was on hand during the event to bake cookies and help out the kids.
